Our first 'Field To Plate' Bistro Night at Whirlow Hall Farm at Sunday 13th May is a sell out event!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone up at the farm on Sunday for a delicious night of fresh Spring lamb and hand tended local vegtables.

We visited the farm today to see how their Spring crops are coming along and are delighted to let you know that they will be ripe for the picking on Sunday morning in time for our chef's to prepare your feast that we will serve in Cruck Barn that evening!

Pictured below we have the radishes, beetroot and strawberries busy growing in the summerhouses and fields of the farm, which will all feature on Sunday's menu.

For us this accolade is a timely reward following a year of investments in the image of the restaurant. Changes including a full rebrand, launch of a new website and complete restaurant refit. This month we see delicious tender Spring lamb from Whirlow Hall Farm and wonderful foraged wild garlic and wild nettles from Oughtibridge.

We're also excited about our new fish supplier Inshore Fisheries who will be delivering the freshest fish from Whitby to Silversmiths so we can serve you the best North Sea fish!

Tonight we will have this season’s first hogget on our menu!

Our Pie Night menu will feature:

Whirlow Hall Farm Hogget Pie £8.50 (gt)Braised free range hogget (9-11 month adolescent lamb) & root vegetables in a red wine & rosemary sauce, short-crust pastry lid

For those of you who are wandering what exactly hogget is, it is an adolescent lamb between the ages of 9-18 months. Tonight’s hogget is from Whirlow Hall Farm and has been grazing free range in their fields for the last 9-18 months. With the tenderness of lamb yet the flavour and tastiness of mutton what’s not to love!

Our chef's are currently planning April's new menu which will feature Whirlow hogget as a main course. Check our menus when we add them to our website in the first week of April...

Lamb of course is always a favourite as well so when this comes into season over the next few months we promise to bring you delicious free range lamb from both Whirlow Hall Farm and Stacey Bank Farm, from the field to your plate!

We are super excited to include our first dish starring the newly created Yorkshire sausage in our March menu!

Yorkshire Sausage 'Toad In The Hole', roast apple & thyme, garden vegetables

Lincolnshire, Cumberland and Suffolk all have unique sausages named after them, sausages that are rooted in their local history and celebrated across the region as mealtime favourites. Up until last year Yorkshire, the biggest county in the UK, known for its high quality produce and farming heritage, did not have a namesake sausage!

So last year award-winning Ilkley butcher, David Lishman (pictured above) partnered with Welcome to Yorkshire to launch a campaign to find an official Yorkshire Sausage we could be proud of. They led a series of Yorkshire-wide street sampling road shows and events this summer, where Yorkshire folk have helped to choose the official Yorkshire Sausage. Over 3,500 Yorkshire people tasted each of David's six sausage recipes and on Yorkshire Day 2011, with all the votes counted and verified, the winning sausage was announced!

At Silversmiths our Yorkshire sausages are all loving made by our trusted supplier Stacey Bank Farm using their highest quality free range, high welfare pork. Yorkshire sausage are available to purchase from their farm shop...

Our April menu will include:

The first offerings on Spring are finally here and as the days get longer with more, and warmer, sunshine we can start looking forward to the abundance of Yorkshire produce that is starting to flourish...

Yes our menus have always been seasonal with dishes changing regularly but we are now very excited to be offering a COMPLETELY new monthly menu each and every month! This will give our chef's more momentom and will ensure that we are even more keenly and closely focused on the seasonal monthly offerings our fertile Yorkshire land produces.  We also hope that by offering a changing monthly menu it will allow are customers and regular visitors to always have something to look forward to!

To wet your appetite this month our dishes will include wild rabbit & pigeon from Bradfield, Whitby crab, home hot-smoked salmon, luscious purple spouting broccoli and beetroot snaps from Whirlow Hall Farm as aswell more of our tangy Yorkshire rhubarb.

We are also bursting to introduce our first Yorkshire sausages! More to follow - watch this space for more info!

This week we've had some super transatlantic guests dining with us...The USA Diving Team nonetheless!

These elite athletes dropped in on Wednesday evening for a true taste of Yorkshire – We can report that the Stacey Bank Farm braised beef brisket, root vegetables, glazed pearl onions followed up with Yorkshire Rhubarb crumble went down rather well and were firm favs from the menu!

The US Diving Team visited Sheffield for a pre-Games training camp at Ponds Forge before competing for places at the London 2012 Olympics at The FINA World Championships next week in our capital city.

12-14 of the athletes who dined with us will be selected for the actual US Diving Team – so it's more than likely there will be medallists in the group that came to Silversmiths.

We're happy to report that Silversmiths were the only restaurant the team dined in during their stay in Sheffield... So we're super happy to be sending them on their way with fabulous Yorkshire fuel to boost them on their way to success!

We're particularly proud of the team pic in Silversmiths... It was fabulous to meet you all and we wish you lots of luck next week at FINA and the best of Yorkshire luck for the Olympics!

Starring as this week's 'Cocktail of the Week' our menu will feature a Fresh Rhubarb Martini - fresh rhubarb syrup created by our chefs, shaken with pear vodka, triple sec, a squeeze of fresh lime and lengthened with a splash of cranberry juice. Finished with a fresh rhubarb straw created by our barman Mike. Yum!

Our Pie Night is famous all over the world thanks for to a certain TV chef and a certain TV programme... It's the night for true pie lovers to come and chow down on finely selected Yorkshire ingredients tucked into a tasty pie crust... Served up with the necessary mash or chips and our divine mushy peas!

We think it's the quintessential Tuesday night dining... Where Yorkshire puds greet you for starters and an array of oven hot pies wait for main course to tease and tantalise you...And then to fill your belly... BUT WAIT did we say Tuesday...? Yes – normally so... But for one Monday night only we're opening especially in celebration of Valentines Day and for anyone who loves Pie... Hence LOVE Pie Night...

Our first Yorkshire rhubarb of the season goes on the menu this week hurrah! Tangy Harbinger rhubarb picked straight from the field on Moss Valley Farm in Pudsey, West Yorkshire by one of our newly selected suppliers Tomlinson & Son.

It will take the form of a good old Rhubarb & Ginger Crumble, served with lashings of thick homemade custard. Come and enjoy our yummy Winter warmer...
